Cut The Costs!

Cut the Costs!

In light of the current NUS “Cut the Costs” campaign your elected Edge Hill Students’ Union officer team want to canvas your opinions.

The campaign opposes government plans to scrap Maintenance Grants and replace them with a loans-based system from September 2016 which provide crucial support to over 500,000 students across the country.

Currently students are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the day-to-day costs of studying, and taking away the grants will make it even harder.

Maintenance Grants are given to students from low-income households to ease their living costs. Without them, the least wealthy students will incur even more debt to fund their studies. Worse still, they may feel they can’t even apply due to the lack of support available.

We believe that this government policy is an attack on students from lower income backgrounds, and EHSU has written to local MP’s to ask for their support in having this issue properly debated in Parliament.

Are you willing to back this campaign? We are attending a demo in London on the 19th November 2016 to march alongside students from all over the country in protest against the rising cost of education. If you want to join us then you can find out more here
