Here are your candidates for Student Governor
During this year's nomination process, all candidates were asked to complete a short manifesto.
Please note: In the interests of fairness, the manifestos are published as submitted by the candidates. Edge Hill Students' Union has not edited any of the below manifestos.
I am a mature Sports & Exercise Psychology undergraduate with decades of expertise in voluntary civic service and governance, guided by the Nolan Principles of Public Life.
Trust me: governance is demanding and sometimes boring! It involves poring over pages of minutes, policies, contract law, financial accounts, performance metrics and more. Tough decisions must be made within strict regulatory frameworks, requiring sharp attention to detail and a broad, strategic perspective. Ensuring that everything necessary and appropriate is done right, on time and on budget - leaving no unresolved issues for future boards - is hard work. It requires time and commitment. Let me handle this, so you don't need to.
I'm very competent at this stuff. During the banking crisis, I kept five high-street brands operational. Later, as a board member of an NHS Mental Health Trust, I helped steer its corporate merger through the pandemic. I understand how organisations, like EHU, must satisfy government regulations and still fulfill their duty to meet the needs of those they serve - like you.
With fifteen years of education governance, six in local authority Children's and Young People's Services, and four in the NHS - initially an elected governor, then later a paid non-executive director - I have deep experience that this role will value but may rarely attract. My multiple perspectives of university life - first as teenager, then parent, now mature student - qualifies me to articulate all your needs confidently and without bias. I am unafraid to challenge power when necessary, yet have no agenda other than to oversee a smoothly running university.
That's it - I offer no gimmicks, no team, no in-your-face social media campaign. Governance is not improved by popularity. Just Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty and Leadership.
TRUST COMPETENCE EXPERIENCE
Hi I’m Chloe I’m 22, and I’m a second year Animation student , My goal is to create an environment where every one of us feels valued, heard, and empowered to succeed. I will make sure that your concerns, suggestions, and ideas are taken seriously and acted upon.
I will also work to provide regular updates on the actions so that everyone knows how decisions are made and what is being done to improve our uni. I know that university life can sometimes feel overwhelming. That’s why one of my top priorities will be to push for more accessible resources for mental health and well-being and fostering a culture where asking for help is encouraged.
I’ll create more opportunities for students to give feedback and be apart of decision making process on issues that affect our university. If there are changes that need to happen I’ll bring it forefront.
If you elect me as your Student Governor, I will listen, act, and work to make our uni a better place for everyone. 😊
If there is one person with the heart, the confidence and the skill to represent the people of this fine institution there is no one else I can trust but myself: Paul. In 3 days me and my group has mobilized to become a terror of a political campaign, and fully convinced that with more time not only can we match it, but exceed it.
This university needs Passion, Action, Unity and Life. What this University needs is PAUL.
You might have seen RON listed as a candidate in our elections before. Don’t get confused though, RON isn't a person, it's an acronym, and it stands for Re-Open Nominations.
If you vote for RON, that’s your way of telling us that you don’t think any of the current candidates are the right fit for the role. So, if RON gets the most votes, then no candidates win, and we’ll start the election process again.
Students will always have the option to vote for RON in the elections. They’re all about who represents you as a student, and if you don't think any candidate represents you, then you should have the opportunity to tell us.
