Edge Hill Students' Union is launching a consultation to investigate placement support options for Health, Social Care & Medicine students at Edge Hill University.
Doreen Morrin, Health Social Care & Medicine President at Edge Hill Students' Union, is launching the consultation to investigate how support options could be improved.
All survey participants will be entered into a prize draw for a £50 One4All voucher.
Placements are an essential part of the healthcare training journey. Work placements give students the opportunity to learn valuable skills from industry professionals, while gaining real world experience in their chosen subject area.
However, students have reported experiencing adverse health effects as a result of placement. Medicine students reported feeling the need to be "invincible" in response to poor work culture, while others have experienced issues of intimidation, leading to "psychologically hazardous" environments.
Edge Hill Students' Union believes all students should have frequent and reliable access to support while they're on placement. That's why we're launching our survey to explore how support options could improve.
Doreen said: "As a nursing student myself, I know first hand the added pressures placement can bring. Juggling your home life, studies, and a new work environment all at once can be overwhelming."
"In a time when our healthcare services are facing turbulence, it's important the nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals of tomorrow get the proper support while they're training. I encourage all Health, Social Care & Medicine students who are currently on or have ever been on work placement to take part in this survey."
"Any suggestions on how support for placement students could be improved will go a long way in helping us change Edge Hill for the better."
All students on an undergraduate or postgraduate Health, Social Care & Medicine programme at Edge Hill University are invited to complete the survey. Responses will be anonymised, and any identifying information will not be shared outside of Edge Hill Students’ Union.
Your response will help inform future Edge Hill Students’ Union campaign to improve placement support.
