At Edge Hill Students’ Union, we believe all students deserve equal opportunities and access to placements alongside their degrees. That’s why we’re launching our new consultation to investigate placements amongst Arts & Sciences students at Edge Hill University.
On Thursday 27 October, Edge Hill Students’ Union released its new survey exploring the importance of placements to the student experience, and whether students are aware of placement opportunities on their course.
All survey participants will be entered into a prize draw for a £50 One4All voucher.
Jack Richardson, Arts & Sciences President at Edge Hill Students’ Union, is leading the campaign to ensure Arts & Sciences students have their voices heard.
According to Ratemyplacement, completing a work placement or a sandwich year is limitlessly beneficial to future employability prospects.
Health and Education students at Edge Hill University often undertake placement modules and gain work experience in their sector before graduation.
However, other courses are unique in nature. Given the wide array of subjects within the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, the career pathway isn’t always as clear in comparison to the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Health, Social Care & Medicine. This could leave Arts & Sciences students wondering how they could gain valuable experience without any work experience opportunities or placement modules.
Jack Richardson said: “If courses within the Arts & Sciences faculty were to offer placements for their students as part of their courses, it would be hugely beneficial to the development of a student’s career trajectory."
“Quite often, Arts & Sciences students finish their degrees and don’t have a clear idea of where they want to go in their academic or professional careers from here."
“It would be great if there were more opportunities for them to gain that extra experience and help them to make a more informed decision about their next steps.”
All students on an undergraduate or postgraduate Arts & Sciences programme at Edge Hill University are encouraged to complete the survey. Responses will be anonymised, and any identifying information will not be shared outside of Edge Hill Students’ Union.
Your response will help inform future Edge Hill Students’ Union campaigns surrounding placement awareness. Use your voice, and you can help change Edge Hill University for the better.
