So this week has been our first REALLY busy week back. For our sports teams, that's a "yay!", for me... not so much. With that in mind, let's see how all of our sports teams got on...

Our Men’s Hockey team faced tough opposition in the form of Manchester Met’s 2nd team. But once again, they put in an absolutely amazing performance and with 7 (yes 7) goals from Nick Fletcher (which got him MOTM), 1 goal from Matthew Stacey and 1 goal from Jac Horwood. The infamous D*ck of the Day was awarded to two of our players, Sam Butler and Ross Gordon. Sam may (or may not) have got a little bit intoxicated the night before their game and turned up late to the meeting place. And Ross was awarded it for trying to pick up the ball after losing his stick and also for being a little bit of a snitch and telling the rest of the team about Sam’s shenanigans… even though he was on the night out WITH Sam (we’ll let them both off, seeing as they brought home the win).

Our Women’s Hockey team followed in their footsteps and put in another amazing performance. Their game began in HORRENDOUS playing conditions, with a barrage of hail for the first 15 minutes. Despite the weather, our girls were ahead at half time but unfortunately conceded 2 goals in the second half. But they put the work in and managed to come away with an incredible 15-2 win over the Manchester team. The goals came from Anna with 5, Becky with 4, Jenny with 2, Yasmine with 2 and Anya and Nadina both got 1. Man of the match went to Yasmine for some fantastic goals and D*ck of the Day was awarded to the captain Anna for going to hit the ball and missing it completely. But it gets worse, she almost hit multiple Man Met players in the process… The girls now remain UNBEATEN in the league and have 4 games to go!

Onto our Badminton teams. First up is our Men’s 1st team, who faced Bangor’s 2nd team. After some great performances, the lads secured an easy 6-2 win. And a special well done to Isaak Dalglish, who played in his debut for the 1st team! He did amazingly well and showed a great attitude stepping up to the first team. Now for the Women’s 1st team. They played against Bangor 1st’s and after strong performances, a lot of determination and some great attacking play… they came away with another 6-2 win!! The player of the match went to Jodie Talbot. Our Men’s 3rd team followed the amazing performances and came away with a fantastic 7-1 win against Bangor’s 3rd team! Considering that the last time the two teams faced each other Bangor won 6-2, this is a HUGE achievement and shows that hard work really does pay off. Players of the matches were awarded to Matt Howard and Jordan Baron!

Unfortunately we have a few losses coming your way now. Our Men’s 2nd team lost 8-0 against Lancaster. Even after some great games, our lads just couldn’t bring the score back! The player of the match went to Joe Cocks. The Men’s 4th team faced Chester’s 2nd team and after some very close games, Chester came away with a 6-2 win. The player of the match was Paul Popivici! For the last game of the day, our Women’s 2nd team sadly lost 8-0 to Manchester Met’s 1st team! They faced a really tough opposition and just couldn’t hold on on this occasion. Player of the match was awarded to Katelyn Ashmore.

We also had a few other fixtures played on Wednesday, so here's how those teams got on:

  • Our Women's Rugby Union team sadly lost 60-10 to the University of Leeds
  • Our Netball 1st team came away with an unbelievable 84-20 win versus the University of Manchester's 3rd team
  • The Netball 2nd team came so close, but unfortunately lost 31-30 to the University of Liverpool's 4th team
  • Our Men's Football team also sadly lost 2-1 to the University of Chester's 1st team
  • And finally (we'll finish on a high note), our Men's Table Tennis team came away with an easy 14-3 win against Manchester Met's 2nd team

Next week we have even MORE fixtures coming your way. It's a very busy week once again, but we know it'll be well worth all of the organising...

See you next week!
