Cup Week is hereeeee and we have all of the drama you could possibly ever need...

Starting with our Men's Rugby Union 1st team. After weeks of cancellations and stopped matches, the Beavers finally got to play their first full game of the New Year! They faced Manchester's 3rd team and with a travelling support of over 20 lads, our team went into the game full of confidence. They played against the wind in the first half and unfortunately the game started poorly with the opposition scoring two tries in quick succession. However, the next few minutes were completely in Edge Hill's favour after a spectacular try from the returning Joe Bradford (who played amazingly well and even received Man of the Match). The first half ended 13-13. The second half, with the wind behind the time, was all Edge Hill. Manchester didn't know how to handle the attacks that were coming in wave after wave and with a try from Alex Tenev, he helped to guarantee the win. And Andy Adams completely sealed the game with yet another lovely try! The final score was 26-13 to Edge Hill. Amazing performances from all and we're SUPER proud of them for getting back into the swing of things after many cancellations and rearrangements.

Onto our Women's Hockey 1st team who faced a tough Cup draw against Leeds Beckett 3rd team! As well as a tough opposition, they also faced tough playing conditions in the typical, freezing cold British weather. The girls definitely felt the nerves as this was the quarter finals of the Northern Conference Plate and they were without their captain Anna, which they knew could impact them greatly! Even wiith goals coming from Skinner and Beth, it just wasn't enough to beat the opposition and the final score was unfortunately 4-2 to Leeds. This is the end to their fantastic Cup run, but not to worry as they are still on track to win the league!! Anya was nominated as this weeks Man of the Match and also... "D*ck of the Day" (you win some, you lose some right Anya?).

Speaking of their chances of winning the league, they face a rearranged game versus Bolton on Monday night (again, in near sub-zero conditions). The cold really affected their level of play and they came away with a low scoring game (for them) with a 5-0 final score. Goal scorers included; Jenny with 3 and Anya with 2. Man of the Match was awarded to Anya once again, for being excellent in attack. And "D*ck of the Day' was kindly awarded to Bethan for becomming so angry with the opposition that she was ordered to stay at the back of the pitch and not talk to anyone (oops). The 1st team are still UNBEATEN in the league, so let's keep this up girls. Super proud!!

Now for our Men's Table Tennis 1st team. They travelled away to Cumbria in the hopes that they could win the league with this match and this is EXACTLY what they did! They absolutely smashed their fixture and came away with a 15-2 win. They are also unbeaten in their league and have 7 out of 7 wins. They've done SO well this season and thoroughly deserve to win the league. Amazing, amazing, amazing guys!

Finally, our Women's Football team played in their Quarter Final Cup game versus Manchester's 1st team. They knew this would be a tough game but they played absolutely amazingly and with goals from Mia Pemberton and Chloe green, the girls came away with a 2-1 win!! They are now through to the Semi Finals and face Teesside on the 28th of February. We can't WAIT to see how they get on, well done girls!

We also had a few other fixtures played on Wednesday, so here's how those teams got on:

  • Our Women's Badminton 1st team unfortunately lost 5-3 in their cup game against Northumbria University.
  • And our Men's Badminton 4th team also suffered a lost in their game against Salford.

We have yet another action packed week for you next week (weekend and Monday evening fixtures included!!)

So we'll see you then...
