We're back, but this time it's not the usual BUCS Match Report! (I know, check us out mixing it up a little bit). Instead, we have our BUCS 2017-2018 Season Recap... So let's get into it because it's going to be a longgggg one!

We'll start with our Men's Badminton teams. The Men's 1st and 3rd teams had equally solid seasons, with both teams finishing in 3rd place in their respective leagues! The 3rd team managed to get through to the last 32 in the Cup, whilst the 1st team did amazingly well to get through to the last 16. Unfortunately our Men's 2nd and 4th teams didn't fare as well this season. Both teams finished in 5th place in their leagues after some unlucky defeats. Although our 2nd team did manage to get through to the last 16 in the Cup after a great 6-2 win over Hull.

Now for our Women's Badminton teams, who both had great seasons. Our Women's 1st team did amazingly well and finished in 1st place in their league!! This means they are now going to promoted into Northern 1A!! EVEN better than that (yes, it gets better), they managed to get through to the Semi-Finals of the Cup and they only narrowly missed out on claiming victory with a 5-3 loss against Northumbria. The 2nd team also did a great job, as they finished in 4th place in their league and made it to the last 32 in their Cup run!

Moving onto our Basketball teams. Both our Men's 1st and 2nd teams, sadly didn't have their best seasons. The 1st team finished 5th in their league, but did manage to get to the last 32 in their Cup run! However, our Men's 2nd team unfortunately got relegated from their Northern 5A League, after a very unlucky season. Our Women's Basketball 1st team had a pretty amazing season. With an ASTONISHING 157 goal difference and a solid 15 points, they finished in 2nd place in their league! Their best result of the season had to be against the University of Cumbria, where they absolutely smashed the game 92-7.

Our Men's and Women's Football teams had very different seasons... we'll start with our Men's 1st team! Despite having a solid start to the season, they really did struggle to hang onto the league title towards the end! After a few dissappointing performances against Chester and UCLan, the team struggled to get back on track and ended the season in a respectable 3rd place. Our Men's 2nd team also struggled throughout both their league and Cup run. They could only manage a 5th place in their league, after a frustrating season! A change of manager half way through the season came a little too late, as this wasn't enough to get them any higher up on the league table. On a lighter note, our Women's 1st team had an amazing season as they finished in 1st place in Northern 3A and have been promoted into a higher league!! They easily did this, with 30 points and an astonishing 40 goal difference. Not only this, but they also had a great Cup run and were unlucky to lose 4-2 to Teesside in the Semi-Finals.

Like our Women's Football team, our Men's Futsal team also had a great season. They finished in 2nd place in Northern 2A and were unlucky to be knocked out in the Quarter Finals of the Cup by Teesside in what was a VERY close game, ending 10-9.

Next up are our Men's and Women's Hockey teams. Our Men's 1st team had a solid season and managed to easily secure 2nd place in Northern 3A! However, they were unlucky in their Cup run, as they faced a tough Northumbria side and sadly lost 6-3. Their best result of the season has to be their 7-0 win against MMU. Our Women's 1st team also had a great season, as they won their league and are now going to be promoted up from Northern 4A! Their league victory came down to the last, exciting match of the season as they beat Salford 3-2 in a nail biting match. They also performed extremely well in the Cup, as they only narrowly missed out on getting through to the Semi-Finals, after a 4-2 loss against Leeds Beckett. Finally onto our Women's 2nd team, they had an absolute storm of a season as they also came 1st in their league and managed to remain unbeaten throughout!!!

Now for our four Netball teams... Starting with our 2nd team who sadly had a disappointing season, despite their best efforts. They managed one win throughout the whole season, due to some very unlucky defeats! This unfortunately meant that they finished the league on 3 points and in 6th place. However, they did have a MUCH better run in the Cup and made it through to the last 16. Thankfully our other three teams had much better seasons. Our 1st team had an absolutely amazing one! They finished in 1st place in Northern 2A, only suffering two losses throughout. Their best result has to be their 52-44 win over Lancaster, who were their closest rivals in the league. They also had a VERY impressive Cup run, as they only painfully missed out on getting through to the Finals by a 71-70 loss to Durham (how close is that?!). The 3rd and 4th team also had great seasons, as the 3rd's came 2nd in their league and the 4th's did really well and managed to come 3rd in their league!! The 4ths' best result was definitely their 56-14 win over UCLan's 3rd team.

Moving onto our Men's Rugby League 1st team. They had a very decent season, consisting of winning 6 out of their 10 league games and finishing 3rd overall in the league, with 15 points!! It didn't stop there, as they also managed to get through to the last 16 in the Cup, which was a great achievement against a lot of TOUGH opposition. Their best result of the season had to be their 54-6 win over Leeds Beckett 2nd's.

Next up we have one of our biggest clubs, Rugby Union. The Men's 1st team had a pretty good season, as they won 6 out of their 10 games and finished 4th in Northern 3A! They also made it through to the Quarter Finals, only missing out on the next round by a 43-26 loss to Leeds Beckett. The 2nd team had a slightly better season, as they managed to take 3rd place in their league, with a solid total of 20 points! Our Women's teams seemed to have more frustrating seasons. The 1st team had a frustrating season as they had an unlucky Cup run, meaning they had to hand a walkover to Leeds and were knocked out in the Last 16 round. The 2nd team also struggled throughout the season, as they had issues with fielding a team. This reflects their league position which is 10th place. However, they did really well to make it through to the Last 16 in the Cup!!

Now for our Men's and Women's Table Tennis teams. Our Men's team had an absolutely amazing season!! They remained UNDEFEATED in all 7 of their league games, with an incredible goal difference of 51. They also did amazingly well in the Cup, as they managed to get through to the Quarter Finals, only missing out 11-6 against Sheffield. The Women's 1st team also did a great job in their league, as they managed to finish in 4th position and won 4 out of their 10 games!!

Another club that had a great season was Tennis. Our Men's 1st team had a pretty unbelivable season, as they just narrowly missed out on winning their league! They came in 2nd place, with an amazing goal difference of 52. This is particularly impressive when you look at their league performance last year where they came in 5th place. The Women's 1st team sadly weren't as successful this season. They finished 5th in their league and will therefore be relegated. They really struggled to field a team this season, which was a real shame!

Onto our Volleyball teams. Our Men's 1st team had a very tough season and finished 5th in their league! However, our Women's 1st team had a much better season as they ended up coming 1st in their league, with a great total of 9 points.

Our American Football team are up next and it would definitely be fair to say that they had a tough season, through no fault of their own!! ALL season they struggled to find officials to run their games and this left them with understandable frustration. Despite this, they still managed to come away with two great 28-6 wins, over both Chester and Bradford!! So it wasn't all doom and gloom for them...

That's it for our teams, however we do have our main BUCS individual entry this season who was Chris Heaton who took part in the Indoor Track Cycling event. He represented Edge Hill in the sprint competition, which consisted of a 200m time trial and was the fastest qualifier with a time of 10.799 seconds. Chris lead the competition throughout the whole day and due to this, he took the final in two straight rides in a best of three. Meaning that he won a BUCS GOLD MEDAL!!!

We are SO proud of all of our sports teams and individuals and they've done amazingly well to finish their League and Cup runs in the way that they have (in true #TeamEdgeHill style of course). Even though the BUCS season is now over and we're all VERY sad about it... we are still buzzing about our recent Varsity win over all UCLan teams!!! (For the third year in a row, may we add). We also have our Outdoor Cricket fixtures starting in May, so it's not all bad...

We'll see you next season, when our fixtures and match reports return!!
